The Story

Tipper is David Tipper, a British electronic producer whose whole reputation rests on detail. Emerging in the late 1990s — first on vinyl for Fuel Records, then through Sony's Higher Ground imprint — he built a sound out of glitch, breakbeat, downtempo and bass, edited with a precision that made even his heaviest tracks feel finely machined.

In 2005 he founded his own label, Tippermusic, and has released through it ever since, from The Critical Path and Broken Soul Jamboree to Forward Escape, Jettison Mind Hatch and Marble Hunting. Away from the dance floor he is among the artists most associated with immersive, multichannel audio: his album Surrounded was conceived entirely as a 5.1 surround-sound listening experience.

Live, Tipper became a cornerstone of the North American festival and immersive-sound scene, known for painstakingly tuned sound systems and headlining rooms as large as Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where he played a two-night stand in 2025.

It is deliberately non-commercial music — long, patient, texturally obsessive — that found a devoted audience precisely by refusing to simplify.
