The Story
Sylvan Esso formed in Durham, North Carolina in 2012 when Amelia Meath, of the folk trio Mountain Man, began collaborating with electronic producer Nick Sanborn. Their self-titled 2014 debut paired her voice with his synth production, establishing a sound built on that contrast.
What Now (2017), Free Love (2020) and No Rules Sandy (2022) continued the catalog. The duo also runs their own record label, Psychic Hotline, founded in 2021, and operate a recording studio, Betty's, in North Carolina.
