The Story
SUUNS came together in Montreal when Ben Shemie and Joseph Yarmush started making beats that quickly turned into songs; drummer Liam O'Neill and bassist-keyboardist Max Henry completed the original lineup. Their 2010 debut Zeroes QC arrived on Secretly Canadian, tense and motorik, indebted to krautrock's engine-room pulse as much as to post-punk's nerves.
Images du futur (2013) sharpened that sound into something colder and more electronic, and was longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. In 2015 the band stepped outside their own catalog entirely for Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart, a full collaborative album with the Montreal experimental duo, recorded together over a single week.
In 2020 SUUNS signed with Joyful Noise Recordings, releasing the Fiction EP followed by The Witness (2021) and The Breaks (2024) — records that kept pushing the tension between live-band chaos and machine precision that has defined them from the start.
Live, SUUNS remain a coiled, physical band — the same restlessness that has carried them through more than fifteen years and half a dozen albums without ever settling into one shape.
