The Story
Sublime came together in Long Beach, California around Bradley Nowell on vocals and guitar, Eric Wilson on bass and Bud Gaugh on drums — a band that folded ska, punk, reggae, hip-hop and surf rock into one loose, sun-bleached sound. 40 oz. to Freedom (1992) and Robbin' the Hood (1994) built a devoted following well before the mainstream noticed.
Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose on May 25, 1996, two months before the release of the band's self-titled third album. Sublime went on to sell millions of copies, carried by 'What I Got', 'Santeria' and 'Wrong Way' — a breakthrough its own songwriter never lived to see.
The band's catalog stayed frozen for decades, covered but not extended. Then in 2024, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh reunited under the Sublime name with a new vocalist and guitarist: Jakob Nowell, Bradley's son, debuting the lineup at Coachella.
In 2026 that reunited band released Until the Sun Explodes, a new full-length album — the first new Sublime record in three decades, extending a catalog that had been sealed since 1996.
