The Story
Annie Clark, born in Tulsa and raised in Dallas, spent her early twenties as a touring sideman before stepping out on her own — playing in the choral rock band the Polyphonic Spree, then joining Sufjan Stevens' touring band, before forming St. Vincent in 2006. Marry Me (2007) introduced the project; Strange Mercy (2011) became her first album to reach the Billboard 200's Top 20.
St. Vincent (2014), MASSEDUCTION (2017), Daddy's Home (2021) and All Born Screaming (2024) built out a catalog defined by precise, distorted guitar playing and increasingly theatrical production — MASSEDUCTION was co-written and produced with Jack Antonoff, while All Born Screaming marked her first time producing an album entirely on her own.
In 2012, Clark released Love This Giant, a full collaborative album with Talking Heads' David Byrne, pairing her guitar work with a horn-driven arrangement style far outside her solo catalog.
St. Vincent has won six Grammy Awards from eight nominations, including three wins for Best Alternative Music Album across three different records (2015, 2022, 2025) — a run the Recording Academy's own data ties to St. Vincent, MASSEDUCTION-era single 'Masseduction,' Daddy's Home, and 2025's 'Broken Man,' 'Flea' and All Born Screaming sweep.
