The Story
At 19, Melody Gardot was struck by a vehicle while cycling in Philadelphia, sustaining serious injuries that left her overly sensitive to light and sound. Music therapy became her most effective recovery tool, and songwriting became her path into a music career.
She self-released her debut, Worrisome Heart, in 2006; it was reissued by Verve in 2007. My One and Only Thrill followed in 2009, and Currency of Man in 2015. Her catalog moves between jazz, soul and orchestral pop, sung in both English and French.
Her 2010 documentary, Melody Gardot: The Accidental Musician, chronicles her path from the accident into music.
