The Story

Andrew Hozier-Byrne, born near Bray, County Wicklow in 1990, broke through in 2013 with 'Take Me to Church' — a slow-building gospel-blues single that reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks and earned a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. His self-titled debut album followed in 2014.

Wasteland, Baby! (2019) and Unreal Unearth (2023) deepened both the sound and the ambition: Unreal Unearth is structured around Dante's Inferno, its songs mapped loosely onto the nine circles of Hell as a way of working through pandemic-era isolation.

In 2024, 'Too Sweet' reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — Hozier's first US chart-topper, surpassing even 'Take Me to Church''s peak a decade earlier, and making him the first Irish act to top the Hot 100 since Sinéad O'Connor in 1990.

A decade in, Hozier remains one of the few artists moving comfortably between hushed, literary songwriting and genuine mainstream chart dominance — often in the same album.
