The Story
Gustav Ejstes writes and plays nearly every instrument on Dungen's studio records himself, singing throughout in Swedish despite the band's international acclaim in English-speaking psych and indie circles.
Ta det lugnt (2004) established the band internationally, with the single 'Panda' (2005) getting a further boost from a performance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. 4 followed in 2008, continuing the same psych-folk-jazz fusion.
Häxan (2016), the band's first fully instrumental album, was commissioned by the Swedish Film Institute as a new live score for Lotte Reiniger's 1926 silent animated film The Adventures of Prince Achmed — the oldest surviving feature-length animated film, predating Disney's Snow White by nearly a decade. Dungen performed the score live at venues including the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Dungen's live lineup beyond Ejstes has included guitarist Reine Fiske, bassist Mattias Gustavsson and drummer Johan Holmegard, and the band continues to record and tour internationally.
