The Story

UK composer-arranger Andrew T. Mackay and producer Garry Hughes conceived Bombay Dub Orchestra after traveling to Mumbai in the late 1990s to record session players for another project. In 2005 they returned to record a roughly 30-piece Mumbai string orchestra by day and bansuri, sarangi, sitar and tabla players by night, building their self-titled 2006 debut around more than 50 musicians.

3 Cities (2008) and Tales From The Grand Bazaar (2013) expanded the project's geography — the latter recorded across Mumbai, Istanbul, Kingston (Jamaica, with Sly & Robbie), London, Los Angeles and New York.

Their remix of 'Jingle Bells,' featuring vocalist Joe Williams, plays during a workshop scene in Marvel's Iron Man 3 (2013).

Bombay Dub Orchestra remains a studio project without a regular touring schedule.
