The Story

Autolux formed in Los Angeles in 2001 around drummer-vocalist Carla Azar, guitarist-vocalist Greg Edwards and bassist-vocalist Eugene Goreshter. Edwards had come from the band Failure; Azar met him while touring with it. After a self-released debut EP, T-Bone Burnett signed the trio to DMZ, the small label he ran with the Coen Brothers, and personally nurtured the band into their first album.

Future Perfect (2004) arrived after Burnett pushed the band to capture their live sound in the studio rather than lean on the 8-track demos that built the EP. It was met with critical praise, and the band spent 2005 touring behind it alongside Clinic, Broadcast, Shellac, Deerhoof and The White Stripes.

Autolux have never rushed: six years passed before Transit Transit (2010), another six before PUSSY'S DEAD (2016). The gaps are part of the band's character — records made only when they're ready, not on a schedule.

Carla Azar's other life runs through Jack White's band, where she has drummed on Blunderbuss, Lazaretto and Boarding House Reach and toured alongside him — proof that even between Autolux albums, the rhythm section never really stops.
